Navicular Disease in Horses: My Experience with the Right Feeding

When the vet made the diagnosis after the X-rays, I was incredibly worried. The concern for my gelding's future was huge in that moment. When it comes to navicular disease in horses and the right feeding, you are often faced with a mountain of information. For me, one thing was immediately clear: I want to support his tendons and joints in the best possible way so that he retains his mobility as much as possible.

Navicular disease in horses: why feeding was a challenge

My first step was to try conventional joint powders. However, the reality at the stables was unfortunately very frustrating. My horse is extremely fussy. He neatly sorted out the feed in his manger, and the expensive powder residue was left untouched at the bottom of the bowl.

I then tried mixing the powder into his mash or hiding it in an apple. Sometimes that worked, but often he noticed the trick and simply left half the feed bowl untouched. The constant weighing out of dusty powder was annoying anyway. The biggest problem, however, was this: if he doesn't reliably eat the supplement, it can't work.

The turning point in feeding after the navicular disease diagnosis

Through my online research, I came across nuvallo move. These are not simple treats, but functional joint snacks for the daily support of tendons and joints.

The concept appealed to me immediately because it completely solves the feeding problem. My horse eats the nuvallo move Snacks straight from my hand. They have an extremely high acceptance rate, and I save myself the hassle of mixing them in. The base of the snacks consists of linseed cake, rice bran, and linseed. The product is completely free from wheat and corn, added sugar, or cheap fillers. This is personally very important to me, as linseed cake and rice bran are particularly gentle on the stomach.

High-quality active ingredients for the joints

The daily ration of 6 snacks (approx. 30 g for my 500 kg horse) contains exactly the nutrients my horse needs right now:

  • Glucosamine (1,500 mg): An important building block for cartilage formation.
  • Collagen (2,550 mg): The structural protein for stability and elasticity in the cartilage.
  • MSM (2,250 mg): Organic sulphur for the regeneration of ligaments and tendons.
  • Hyaluronic acid (150 mg): The main component of synovial fluid.

Because we were initially in an acute phase, I adjusted the feeding and gave double the amount (12 snacks) for the first three weeks. After that, I went back to the normal maintenance dose of 6 snacks daily.

My subjective result after eight weeks

The manufacturer recommends feeding nuvallo move consistently for at least 8 to 12 weeks. I noticed the first positive changes after about six weeks. Since I started feeding nuvallo, I have the feeling that my horse comes out of his stable less stiff in the mornings. When I watch him in the paddock, he seems more supple and moves with noticeably more joy again.

Another big plus for you as a rider: nuvallo move is completely ADMR-compliant. This means there is no withdrawal period, making it safe for competitions. Since the product is manufactured in Europe, I also feel completely reassured about the quality.

Conclusion on feeding a horse with navicular disease

The diagnosis of navicular disease will be with my horse for the rest of his life, and naturally, nuvallo doesn't cure this condition. But it visibly supports my gelding in everyday life.

nuvallo move has made the daily routine at the yard so much easier. No more sorted-out powder, no more stress at feeding time. I can warmly recommend these functional snacks to you if you are looking for an effective and completely stress-free way to support your horse's joints.
