Die Zuchtstute: Nährstoffe für Mutter und Fohlen

The Broodmare: Nutrients for Mother and Foal

There is hardly a more exciting time in a horse owner's life than when your own mare is pregnant. Every day I look at her belly, which is slowly getting rounder and rounder, and the anticipation for the little foal grows immeasurably. But quite honestly? With the joy comes the worry.

Especially in the last third of pregnancy, our mares are doing incredibly hard work. They are not only carrying the additional weight of the foal, but their entire body is changing. Ligaments and tendons become softer to prepare for the birth, and the enormous weight puts a lot of pressure on the joints. I can sometimes see in my mare how difficult getting up after rolling becomes, or how she needs a few steps in the morning just to get going. I really wanted to do something good for her to support her joints during this intensive phase – but that was easier said than done.

The battle with the feed bucket

If you have broodmares, you certainly know what I am talking about: pregnant mares can be incredibly fussy. Their hormones are probably going crazy, but what tasted good yesterday is ignored with a disdainful snort today.

I really tried everything to sneak a high-quality joint powder into her feed. I stirred it into her mash – she left it. I tried hiding it in hollowed-out apples – she neatly dismantled the apple and spat out the powder. In the end, I always had the same result: the expensive powder stuck to the bottom of the bucket as a dusty residue, and my horse looked at me reproachfully. The best supplement is useless to me if it does not end up in the horse. I was on the verge of giving up.

The discovery: nuvallo move Snacks

Looking for an alternative that does not look or smell like medicine, I came across the nuvallo move Snacks. The concept sounded almost too good to be true: a functional joint snack that contains all the important nutrients but tastes like a reward. No measuring scoops, no dust, no battle.

Since they are free from wheat and maize and are based on linseed cake, rice bran and linseed, I also did not have to worry about unnecessary fillers – especially with a pregnant mare, I do not want any rubbish in her feed.

Why the "Snack" makes the difference

I ordered the nuvallo move Snacks and did the ultimate test. I offered her a snack – and she took it immediately. No hesitation, no spitting out. She chewed it with relish and searched my hand for more.

The dosage could not be simpler: a 500 kg horse gets about 6 snacks a day (approx. 30 g). Since my mare naturally weighs a bit more now due to her pregnancy, I have slightly adjusted the dose and am currently giving her 7 to 8 pieces to compensate for the higher body weight.

These little snacks contain the full power for the musculoskeletal system:

  • Glucosamine and collagen for cartilage and stability.
  • MSM (organic sulphur) for the regeneration of the tendons, which are now under high tension.
  • Hyaluronic acid for the joint fluid.

The best part for me is the relaxed feeding. I no longer have to mix anything or hope that she finishes her bucket. I simply give her the snacks directly from my hand as a greeting or after grooming.

Our result: A mobile mum

I have now been feeding the nuvallo move Snacks consistently for about six weeks. Of course, her belly is still huge and the burden is there, but my subjective observation is absolutely positive.

I have the feeling that she is significantly more comfortable in herself. When she goes from her stable to the pasture in the morning, she seems less stiff and steps out more cheerfully. Getting up after her midday nap in the straw also seems to be easier for her. Overall, she appears more "supple" and mobile, despite the extra kilos she is carrying around. It reassures me immensely to know that she is supplied with the right nutrients, without me having to burden her with feeding stress.

In addition, the ADMR compliance gives me peace of mind – even if we are not competing at the moment, it is good to know that I am feeding a clean product manufactured in Europe.

Conclusion

To all breeders and owners of pregnant mares who are despairing over the "powder dilemma", I can warmly recommend the nuvallo move Snacks. They take the stress out of feeding and ensure that the important active ingredients get to where they are needed. My mare is happy about her "snacks", and I am happy because I see how well she is moving. Now the foal can come!
