Large-framed Warmbloods: Joint Management During Growth

Anyone who has ever fallen in love with a foal or yearling knows that one moment: you are standing in the field, looking at your "baby", and thinking to yourself, "Just how big are you going to grow?"

That is exactly how I felt with my youngster. He is a large-framed warmblood, has legs up to the sky, and seems to grow croup-high practically overnight. As wonderful as it is to watch him grow up, as an owner, you do worry. Especially with the "big ones" who shoot up so fast, the topic of joint health during growth is ever-present. You hear the usual horror stories about chips, uneven growth, and ligaments that struggle to keep up with the bones.

It quickly became clear to me: I need to support him. Not just when he is under saddle, but right now, when the foundation for his body is being laid. Yet, between the desire to do the right thing and the reality at the yard, there were worlds apart.

The battle with the powder

So, I did my research, asked vets, and grilled feed experts. The recommendation was usually clear: glucosamine, MSM, and collagen are important to support tendons, ligaments, and cartilage development. Motivated, I bought the first high-quality joint powder.

Disillusionment followed the next morning. My horse might be young, but he is not silly. He sniffed the feed bowl once, snorted indignantly into it (leaving me standing in a white cloud), and meticulously sifted out the mix around the powder. I tried everything:

  • Mixing the powder into the mash (he ate the mash, but the powdery residue at the bottom remained).
  • Hiding it in soaked hay cobs (the scepticism remained).
  • Stuffing it into a hollowed-out apple (a massive mess).

It was frustrating. I knew he needed these nutrients for his long legs and soft joints, but what use is the most expensive supplement if it ends up on the floor or sticks to the feed bowl? Every day I stood there hoping he would take in at least half of it.

The discovery: nuvallo move Snacks

In this phase of despair, I came across nuvallo move Snacks. At first, I was sceptical – another "miracle cure"? But what immediately appealed to me was the concept: it is not a powder, not a sticky liquid, but a functional joint snack.

The promise sounded almost too good to be true: the full load of active ingredients, packed into something that looks like a normal snack and apparently tastes like one too. Since nuvallo is free from wheat and corn, relying instead on stomach-friendly linseed cake and rice bran, I thought to myself: it is worth a try.

Why the "snack" advantage makes all the difference for us

The first test was the deciding moment. I took one of the nuvallo move Snacks, offered it to my giant baby – and whoosh, it was gone. No snorting, no sifting out, just contented chewing and a searching look for more.

The brilliant thing about it is the simplicity. I no longer have to look for scales or fiddle with measuring spoons. The dosage is incredibly easy: a standard 500 kg horse gets 6 snacks daily. Because my growing warmblood already has considerable mass and frame, I adjusted the dose slightly and give him 7 to 8 pieces a day. It is so easy to manage.

But what really wins me over is what is inside. The daily ration contains exactly the building blocks I previously struggled to feed as a powder:

  • Glucosamine (1,500 mg) and collagen (2,550 mg) for cartilage and stability.
  • MSM (2,250 mg) for tendon regeneration.
  • Hyaluronic acid (150 mg) for joint fluid.

And all of this on a base of linseed cake, rice bran, and linseed. No fillers, no added sugar. Simply honest.

Our results after 12 weeks

I have been feeding the nuvallo move Snacks consistently for a good three months now. They say you should give supplements for at least 8 to 12 weeks to see an effect, and I wanted to be patient.

Of course, I cannot look inside his joints, but my subjective impression as an owner is absolutely positive. I often used to feel that he seemed a bit "unlevel" or stiff in the mornings after growth spurts, as if he had to sort out his long legs first.

Since we started feeding nuvallo, I feel he copes with these phases much better. He seems more supple in his movements and steps out with more confidence. He also looks more coordinated when playing in the field. It simply gives me a thoroughly good feeling knowing that the active ingredients actually end up in the horse, rather than vanishing into dust in the feed bowl.

Another plus for the future: the snacks are ADMR compliant. So, if we ever head to our first riding horse classes, I will not have to worry about withdrawal periods.

Conclusion

For me, the nuvallo move Snacks have become the "gamechanger" in my young horse's joint management. The constant worry about whether he is getting enough support for his massive growth has vanished. He looks forward to his ration every day, and I am thrilled to see him so lively and eager to move. If you have a large-framed youngster in the yard and are despairing over powders: try it. It is absolutely worth it!
